The data were collected from questionnaires and document analysis. Purposive sampling was applied to collect the data. This research employs a descriptive qualitative study design. The purposes of this study are: to investigate the students’ strategies in translating English information technology article, to investigate the students’ problems in translating technical terms, to investigate the causes of the translation problems and to find solutions in reducing the problems. Therefore, it is very interesting to analyse some issues related to the problem, such as: (1) what translation strategies and methods used by the students in translating an information technology article and (2) what obstacles of students in conducting technical translation. However, technical translation is not an easy thing to be conducted by most students since they should have adequate translation strategies and methods to render meaning of Source Language into Target Language. Actually, the translation process reflects their comprehension on the subject.
This study investigates the technique college students’ strategy in translating an English information technology article into Indonesian based on their knowledge background.
